#WIPMondays Book Review: "Clever Girl Finance: Learn How Investing Works, Grow Your Money"
Updated: Jan 11
Money money money money. In Clever Girl Finance: Learn How Investing Works, Grow Your Money, author Bola Sokunbi presents a broad guide to how investing works, why a person should invest, and how to create an investment plan. Sokunbi is a Certified Financial Education Instructor and the CEO and founder of Clever Girl Finance. I love her mission: "to help women become accountable, ditch debt, save money, and build real wealth."

WHAT I LOVE ABOUT THIS BOOK:
Sokunbi, who narrates the audio version of the book, presents a lot of information in a way that is both accessible and respects the intelligence of the reader. She doesn't dumb things down, but she also doesn't allow things like ETFs and capital gains rates to turn the book into a dry and scary textbook. Sokunbi is relatable, credible, and adept at connecting with the people she advises.
WHO THIS BOOK IS FOR:
Anyone (of any age) new to investing. Anyone newly out of school and starting a first job (this is a critical point for learning the basics of having an investment plan!). Would be a great gift to a college graduate.
MY BIG TAKEAWAY:
The most important thing you can do for your financial future is to be informed. Whether you do your own money management, use an online (faceless) investment services, hire a financial advisor, or rely on a spouse or other family member, you need to "speak the language" and have a general sense of how investments work in order to make informed decisions and recognize when things aren't "right."
MY ACTION STEP:
Choose one investment topic and discuss in-depth with my teens, to help establish a strong foundation of investment knowledge.
NOTES ON THE AUDIO:
Loved the narration, but if I were to give this book as a gift, I would choose the print version for easy reference when revisiting different sections.
